"Herein lies the seed of a band. I first encountered Celestina (John Mark Sherlock's Chinatown work/rehearsal space) when I needed a last-minute fill-in when the venue for Track Could Bend (my monthly music series) closed down. We had a fine little show down there, and JMS, who was already planning to leave the space, said he regretted not doing more stuff like that. So I proposed we should have a show there with our mutual friends Marc Couroux, Jason Doell & Matthew Ramolo (who perform as Nidus) and he readily agreed. Seizing an opportunity, I decided to book myself to open, and I decided to mirror Nidus by putting together a trio. That led to the tongue-in-cheek formulation of Reductive Transduction, "the city's #1 Nidus cover band", for which I invited Del and Liz to play. Their unfamiliarity with Nidus' oeuvre was no impediment (in fact it was sort of a conceptual asset) and we had a rather fine time playing together (especially Del, who got a chance to play on a beautifully-restored Fender Rhodes!). This would lead to several "we should do that again sometime" conversations — and in time, we did." - Joe Strutt
